I didn't enjoy The Rosie Effect as much as I enjoyed The Rosie Project.The main reason? Rosie was barely a part of the story-line. In hindsight, that might have been a blessing though, as her character was just awful in the sequel. She was mean, nasty, self-centered, and more than little negative about Don. Pregnancy does a lot of things to you body, yes, but one thing it doesn't do is turn you from a good person into a monster.The Rosie Effect focused more on Don with Gene, Don with Dave, Don with George, and Don with a horribly bigoted, narrow-minded woman named Lydia. Maybe calling it The Male Friend Project would have been a more appropriate title?The book just didn't resonate with me. I found myself feeling more aggravated with the characters (with the exception of Don) than anything else.If you enjoyed Don and Rosie's story in the first book, it's probably worth picking this one up and continuing their story, but I wouldn't expect the magic of the first novel.
